The Unique Healing Power Of Tui Na Therapy

In Europe and the US, Tui Na Massage is growing quite rapidly. This ancient Eastern modality has been around for about three decades in Europe although its use has only started to rapidly spread over the last decade.

In the US, there have been some key personalities that have advocated for this type of therapy.

During the 1990’s, when many Europeans were first exposed to Tuina, there was a massive arrival of foreigners in China enrolling at the more notable hospitals in Chengdu, Shanghai and Beijing, in order to learn about acupuncture. About that time, those hospitals were also seeking to get extra funding from foreign students.

The novelty of these experiences inspired some of the prominent practitioners in the Tuina department in Europe to treat patients in poor health condition, curing them within the same week or even the same day. At that time, a lot of Shiatsu practitioners in the West would have needed months to completely treat these patients. The Tui Na practitioners had the most fun working with these patients as they began treating more and more patients with incredibly fast results.

One of the benefits of Tui Na therapy is its ability to modulate all the systems in the body, more so the endocrine system. Tui Na helps move Chi and blood and brings the body and mind together holistically – when these two entities segregate, illness starts.

Only a few people in the West really understand what Tui Na is capable of doing. Herbal therapists, acupuncturists, shiatsu therapists and physiotherapists can diagnose and treat illness but they will never understand the illness unless they solely practice the healing system of Tui Na.

For most massage therapists, Tui Na therapy’s physical/hands on interaction with the patient is a lot more comfortable and desired for the patient than using herbal medicine or inserting needles. Using Tui Na also gives them certain similarities/advantages if they have a background in martial arts. It’s a step in the right direction.

For some people, there seems to be a natural continuity or segue from one discipline to the other. Among other things, Tuina, first of all requires patience, then relaxation, internal force, timing, proper posture, discipline, and focus. It’s like a second martial art. A skilled defense artist should bring these attributes to whatever endeavor he attempts in his life.

Generally speaking, Tui Na has the unique ability of:

  • Alleviating anxiety
  • Relieving spasm and encouraging muscle relaxation
  • Facilitating mental relaxation
  • Treating as well as preventing injury
  • Increasing flow of Blood/Q
  • Promoting lymphatic drainage
  • Boosting removal of cellular waste
  • Raising body awareness
  • Enhancing flexibility and posture

Tui Na uses a combination of both Eastern and Western diagnostic tools and requires knowledge of anatomy, body mechanics, Traditional Chinese medicine, pathology and physiology, capping it of in the delivery of manipulations and techniques that are distinctly Tui Na.

In China Tui Na, is perhaps the most difficult discipline to master as a therapist, consequently making it even more rewarding.

This age old modality is a rewarding and terrific experience, regardless if you’re the one providing or receiving treatment.

For practitioners, it develops into an extremely gratifying profession. While a practitioner can, within a short period of time, become an expert in the methods, he can realize his own potential in the realm of passion, dedication, and time spent in good effort.

You’ll surely come back for more treatments once you have experienced a Tui Na treatment. Lots of people who have tried it are coming in for treatment almost every day more because of its feel good factor and less for its health benefits.

You’ll be surprised at how fast Tui Na facilitates recovery if you’re planning to get treatment for a certain illness or disease.

In some instances, some features of the therapy may not rough and uncomfortable, but in traumatizing the body in a very controlled manner, the natural healing power of the body is set into action.
