Tai Chi’s Power Lies In Its Combination Of Meditation, Breathing, And Movement

Tai Chi improves agility, coordination, and overall fitness. Those who perform it on a regular basis tend to have good range of motion, flexibility, and posture. Tai Chi has been known to help people sleep better at night and boost mental clarity. It addresses the underlying cause of many health problems by balancing the energy systems that travel throughout the body, aligning the spinal posture, relaxing the mind and muscles, and providing the body with life energy. As a tool of deep self-improvement, Tai Chi is one of the most soothing, yet very powerful ways you can perform to strengthen and relax yourself. Its power lies in its unique combination of meditation, breathing, and movement.

Meditation

Studies suggest that taking time to slow down the body and mind is not only soothing, but reduces heart rate and blood pressure, and improves mental focus and acuity as well. The meditative aspect of tai chi can also enhance the function of the central nervous system and immune system, which makes it especially ideal for individuals suffering from depression, chronic illness, or any conditions related to stress. The quiet mindfulness of this practice can help you master the art of listening to your body. This can help you become aware of problems before they turn significantly worse. This same mindfulness can teach you to be grateful for each moment as it affects all the other aspects of your life.

Breathing

Tai Chi includes deep breathing that helps normalize the respiratory system, which can lead to the treatment of emphysema, bronchitis, asthma, and other respiratory disease. The breathing exercises can also help exhale toxins from the lungs whilst inhaling fresh air at the same time helping release tension, stretching the muscles involved in breathing, and increasing the capacity of the lungs. You can use this inhaling and exhaling process as a symbol of letting go of things that are no longer useful to you and permitting new abundance to enter your life.

Movement

All the major muscle groups in the body are used in Tai Chi exercises which help improve the muscles’ coordination, muscle tone, stamina, flexibility, strength, and agility. Based on a study conducted in 1996 by the National Institute on Aging, Tai Chi’s emphasis on balance can enhance body awareness, lowering by up to 50 percent, the risk of falls in elderly patients. One third of adults 65 years or older suffer from falls each year, often with devastating results. Among older seniors, the seventh leading cause death is hip fractures. By reducing this risk by at least 10 percent, the US can save more than a billion dollars a year, not to mention the anguish and pain suffered by the patients and their families.

Tai Chi postures can be a way of teaching your body on how to move the right way, which makes you become more aware of your physical presence. Performing these postures correctly can help seniors have better balance, which will reduce the risk of immobility. Tai Chi can help reverse or slow down the aging process by rotating all the joints in the body releasing any energy that’s blocked in the body. It also keeps the tissues and joints supple by stimulating the liquid systems of the body helping to increase range of movement and eliminate symptoms of arthritis.
